Curt Yagi Trio
Curt Yagi, voted 2008 Best of the Bay Singer Songwriter (SF Bay Guardian) and RAW San Francisco Musician of the Year, has been on a tear in the Bay Area music scene. His songs are delivered in an inimitable and endearingly charismatic persona the SFBG describes as “the swagger of Lenny Kravitz and the lyrical prowess of Jack Johnson,” and The San Francisco Chronicle called Yagi “a talented songwriter who sings -- like Kenny Loggins.” www.curtyagi.com
Jack Cutter performs and records solo acoustic steel string guitar played without accompaniment or vocals. The rich tones, woven at various times from folk, classical, Hawaiian slack key and more, at times evoke a contemplative feeling sometimes treading towards the mystical yet accessible. At other times his music presents blues, rock, country and bits of whatever springs out of the guitar from stompin' to soft.
Sky Police was formed by Boris Polissky to explore more personal approach to music by combining emotional and sincere singer/songwriter aspect of it with more elaborate guitar work and arrangements. www.skypolice.net
Space Monkey Gangstas
Matt and Deeze from SMG will be preforming some highly energetic Rock/Reggae music for people to dance to, or talk over. They will keep you interested in anything you are doing, whether listening to their catchy melodies or just enjoying the company of the festival.
Zed Schild (aka Zed Child, or Zedekiah Pariah) is a prolific original pioneer of the Seattle/Portland Sound. A player of folk guitar, punk, rock, singer song writer, harmonica, accomplished painter and poet – Zed’s upbeat energy offers flavors of alternative influenced phrasing alongside dramatic empowering lyrics. Zed is a founding member of the Last Pariahs, The Harlots, The Out Crowd, guest musician of The Dandy Warhols (as Zedekiah Pariah, The Dandy Warhols by Dandy Warhols album), and most recently touring Europe performing both live and radio shows with the talented Matty Charles, as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SX2W9XS1mU&list=PLbE2kKso5Zi0HpiwpNfrWnja1xge4-CiD&index=14. 10:30pm, Monday July 14, at the Balancoire, SF CA. 2565 Mission Street
With a simple, direct, and at times irreverent approach to performing, Michael enjoys storytelling through verse, both belting out tunes of his own or singing songs by his favorite artists that speak to the universal themes of the human condition.
Sara Judge plays music in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, and around the Bay Area. Generally playing alone or with a mandolin and fiddle player, Sara's music is all original, and her songs reflect a unique East Coast sound in the tradition of troubadours with attitude.
Her live shows capture the energy of dub hall reggae and hip hop, but with the more intimate exchange of acoustic guitar and strings. Sara's music works by bringing the audience into the folk rock genre from a contemporary female perspective with an attitude of "radical engagement.”
Her experiences in directing and performing theater in Philadelphia helped shape and inform her distinctive power-folk sound.
San Francisco band Blind Willies, led by singer/songwriter Alexei Wajchman, plays music as powerful as it is eclectic. Offering up a raucous blend of folk, blues, Americana, rock ‘n’ roll, and original songwriting, Blind Willies features Misha Khalikuov (cello), Alex Nash (drums), Daniel Riera (bass, flute), and Max Miller-Loran (keyboard, trumpet). They met while attending SF's School of the Arts. Accomplished across diverse genres including rock, jazz, classical, and world, the band has forged a dynamic and unique sound that reflects the deeply resonant American musical traditions that each player has brought to the table. Members of Blind Willies also perform with Rupa and the April Fishes, George Watsky, and Goodnight, Texas. They released their fourth album, Every Day Is Judgment Day, in June.
